There are several methods that we use here at WebComics to include your comic image on our pages. Contrary to popular belief, we do not actually host most of the comic images. Most of the images are sourced off of the cartoonist's website. These are the methods that we can use to get that to happen. They are listed from easiest / most prefered to least preferred.
- Static Comic Image URL
With this method, your comic image is always located at one single static URL. For example, for Today's Cartoon by Randy Glasbergen, he places his newest comic at http://www.borg.com/~rjgtoons/images/toon.gif. This image is updated every day. This makes it easier for the both of us, because we don't have to update our HTML every day.- Static Comic page w/ Updated Comic location.
Alternatively, if you don't want to have a static comic url (it may make it too easy for other sites to use your comic), you can have a single page that has the latest comic on it. It should only have one comic and should employ good HTML. Also, the comic name should employ some standard naming convention. ie. toon23453.gif. In this case, we will visit your comic page every day and check for an updated cartoon. At that time, the updated comic will be used at WebComics. However, we may run into problems if your site is in accessible, or if the HTML significantly changes. In addition, some websites are unreachable from our location.- Upload to our server, and use our Scheduler
We have a great web based interface for uploading comics. It allows you to put comics up on our site weeks and months in advance. You just specify the day you want the comic to go live. We take care of the rest. This solution works even if you don't have a website for your comic.- Other
